Ribs

All twelve pairs of ribs are attached to the spine. The top seven pairs are attached directly to the sternum (breastbone) at the other end, and are referred to as "true ribs". The next three pairs are attached to the sternum via cartilage, and are called "false ribs". The bottom two pairs are not attached at the front end and are called "floating ribs".
